50 Years of Exploration and Adventure
For over 50 years Thalatta has been taking children to sea on educational voyages, filled with exploration and adventure. During their time on board children gain confidence and discover qualities of initiative and self-reliance, as they face the challenges that life at sea provides. Since 1967 over 10,000 children have benefited from this unique experience which enriches and remains with them for the rest of their lives.
Our voyages are not limited to schools and youth groups but are also extended to any young adult group or organisation where the experience of living and working in a different world can be seen to build the qualities of good citizenship and foster team building and leadership skills.

The Thalatta Experience
Our Thames Sailing Barge Thalatta is the key part of the experience offered. Thanks to Heritage Lottery funding to supplement the Trust’s own funds she has been completely restored to ‘as new’ condition, and is now one of the finest examples of a wooden coasting barge on the East Coast today, providing a living link with the age of sail.
Learned a whole heap, laughed a lot…
Ellen and the whole team at Ellen MacArthur Cancer Trust say a massive thank you for making our days on Thalatta so very, very special. Learned a whole heap, laughed a lot and thoroughly enjoyed every part of the experience… Thank you so much for bringing so much joy and pleasure to so many…

Just magical…
Just magical – I’ve been lucky enough to take groups of adults and children and all have loved it. Everything from Mad Jack and rope tricks to deserted anchorages and majestic sailing left us all with memories to last a lifetime.
